Jeans To Skirts

I've been sewing again lately and it's been all about turning jeans into skirts for myself and for my little girls. I'm going to try to get some pictures up of the finished products. I keep forgetting to take before photos. There are already lot's of great tutorials showing you how to turn a pair of jeans into a skirt if you just search for them.

You've Gotta Let Go

Here's a song that I wrote quite a while back. When the trials come and we don't understand, we must trust in the Lord.

You've Gotta Let Go

Sometimes no one's to blame
When things don't go, the way you'd planned.
Like Joseph you've been thrown, into a pit,
By your own brothers hands.
As Job of old you curse the day that you were born.
On the ash heap you lie battle scarred, weary and worn.
And there is no where that you can to run to.
And no where that you can hide.
And it seems that there is no escaping, these trials you face in life.

That's when you've gotta let go,
So He can reveal His plan.
You've gotta let go,
No matter where you're gonna land.
You've gotta let go
Knowing that your Redeemer Lives!
And when you've reached the end of your rope.
You've gotta let go.

It's the Greatest Battle Ever Fought.
And the battle sight is the mind.
If you will take Him At His Word.
He will prove It, every time.

So, you let go.
And He reveals His plan.
Then you let go.
You fall into the palm of His Hand.
When you let go.
There's one set of foot prints in the sand.
When you let go of that rope.
Jesus takes hold.

Now, we have a law, the law of the Life in us. We don't... Only thing you have to do... You're made, and borned, and placed here in the Body of Christ as sons and daughters of God. You don't have to "knuck" down to the devil. We've got a law; that's the law of the Holy Spirit. The only thing you know--have to do, is know how to let go and let God. You keep fighting at it (See?), and it won't never work. When you let go and let God, that's all... See?
If the fish said, "Wait, I'll catch my breath real good; I'll breathe up a little oxygen in me, and I'll see if I can go down." No, he does that, he will burst open. See?
The bird says, "I'll see how fast I can run down here, and maybe I'll take off." No, he won't do it; he will fall down. See? He's got to know how to control--how that law can control him.
And the same way it is with us, it isn't what we fight, and pull, and--and hurry, and, "Oh, if I don't get this; if I don't get that"; that's not it; it's to know that the law of Life is in you. And you just let go and let God. Then He takes you to your healing, takes you to the baptism of the Spirit, or anything that He's promised. Any claim that He's given is yours, and by letting go and letting God...

A New Beginning 2

Seems August is my month for starting over, at least at blogging. A year ago this month, I took a second shot at this blogging thing and I never made it past August. Why? Well in truth because I found Face Book and really got into that. It seemed what I would have been posting here I was posting there and didn't want to post the same stuff twice. My interests are shifting back to blogging somewhat though, not counting out FB but just "maybe" wanting to do something here again. I've also found an interest in Pinterest recently, love that! Thought that I could post some here and Pin it there too. So here I go, again.

Rodeo

We had fun at the rodeo. The girls love anything to do with horses, even though we don't have any. They were a little taken aback by the "smell".

LONG, HOT SUMMER

The temperature on my front porch yesterday afternoon:

Temperatures above 110º?--check
Plague of grasshoppers?--check
Can't remember the last time it rained?--check
Yep, we're in a drought.

Croutons 101

When I worked in a restaurant years ago, we made our own croutons. Homemade croutons are soooo much better than the rock-hard kind you buy in a bag in the store. These croutons are like little mini bites of garlic bread. Delicious in salads, soups, or just right out of the pan.

Garlic Croutons

6 slices honey wheat sandwich bread or your choice of breads
real butter, softened
garlic powder
parsley
california garlic salt w/parsley, optional

Preheat oven to 350º.

Spread each bread slice with butter. I am fairly liberal with the butter, but you can use less according to your taste.

Lay the buttered slices, butter side up, on your work surface.

Sprinkle with garlic powder, California garlic salt w/parsley and parsley. Don't us too much of the California garlic salt or your croutons will be too salty to eat.

Now stack all the slices together. Using a serrated bread knife, slice first one direction, then the other to make small squares. Your choice on the size of the squares. I make mine kind of big.

You should end up with a pile of bread cubes like this:

Place on a baking sheet. There is no need to seperate each and every cube. Unless, like me,  you have a 9 year old who is begging to help you seperate them because they will come apart as you bake and stir them.

Bake in your pre-heated oven for about 7 minutes. Remove from the oven, stir (this is where they will begin to seperate, if you didn't do it before you put them in the oven). Place back into the oven for 5 minutes more. Remove from the oven and stir.
If needed put the pan back into the oven for 3 minute intervals, removing and stirring after each, until you get the toasted look you want.

Remove from oven, allow to cool and use as desired!
